Today’ s Catalog
A look at what’s new in the world of Hobbies
“Today’s Catalog” features various hobby products; each of which are available in dozens of on-line hobby shops and or large Department Store outlets. Our intent is to simplify your search and offer a helpful hint about your purchase’s now and then in an effort to make you selection(s) a satisfying experience . . . But if you’re here for an extended “look-about” ─ well, that’s okay too ! . .
This cool “car” can leap nearly 2.5 feet (31.5 inches) into the air with a running speed a bit less than 5mph (7km/h) . . . Any faster and it could be deadly! It’s transmitter or Controller works exceptionally well at a distance of more than 75 feet (30-45m). The “cars” built-in 3.7V rechargeable battery (USB charging cable included) can be fully charged within 50mins and then get 20mins of run time; plus it’s equipped with a 2.4GHz Controller for transmission free interference (sooo, run as many as you like, up to 14) within the same area.
Normal functions include extendable tires; right & left turns; advances, forward & backward; 360° quick spins; and finishes with more than a 2 foot vertical leap, if you like, while in motion. The “Car” moves about with impressive on-board sound effects and LED lights. Truly, this “car’s” image should be displayed in Webster's Dictionary along side the term FUN! . .
Helpful Hints: The Controller / Remote requires 2 AAA batteries (not included) . . . The neat sound effects can be switched off when silent running is desired.
Okay, before we get to far along, you should know a few things about “frequencies” or “channels” used by the R-C’s Controller or transmitting device.
A common question asked about RC vehicles is how many can run at the same time on the same track / course? In a nutshell; it depends upon the frequency the R-C’s Controller is equipped with; three are currently (2018) in use:
27 MHz (megahertz). . . 6 channels / frequencies
75 MHz . . . 30 Channels . . . requires different crystals for each channel*
2.4 GHz (gigahertz). . . 14 possible channels; the R-C automatically “searches out an available” frequency**
*Crystal based frequency radio system’s are determined by plug-in crystals inserted into the transmitter and the receiver . . . Each frequency is assigned a number, so it’s easy to tell who’s on what frequency (30 frequencies available on 75 MHz band)
**2.4 GHz frequency radios are the new standard for Hobby Grade R/C cars & trucks.
**2.4 GHz frequency radios are the new standard for Hobby Grade R/C cars & trucks.
Helpful Hint: Expect 30 to 40 minutes of Run Time with each 31/2 to 4 hour battery re-charge . . . This All Terrain Army Truck comes equipped with 1 Transmitter, 1 Rechargeable Battery, 1 USB Charging Cable, and 1 Owners Manuel . . .
Helpful Hint: Expect 15 minutes or more of Run-time with each re-charge . . . Convenient USB Quick Charger included . . . Point being, these Mini’s will not “break the bank” in need of battery after battery! Of course the Radio Controller requires 2 AAA batteries.
Helpful Hint: Powerful suction tech allows this impressive R-C car to race steadily on any smooth surface: Floors, walls, windows, and even ceilings ─ it just has to be smooth . . . Oh yes, the remote control device requires 6 AA batteries (Not included) and when all four lights start flashing at the same time; the rechargeable battery needs “fuel” or should we say, recharging . . .
Note: Currently (01-19-2019) the Ford GT’s available colors are limited to Liquid Red and Liquid Gray
Helpful Hints: Occasionally 1:10 scale Traxxas Racer’s may call for an 8.4V NiMH or a 2-cell LiPo battery and charger that must be purchased separately! . .You may want to know that a 7.4 Volt 2-cell LiPo battery changes up to 8.4V when fully changed and keeps its performance charge longer than a traditional NiMH battery. Therefore, why not save a few bucks to make your 1:10 replica “Road Ready” with a 7.4V Battery and Charger set (CLICK HERE) . . . (7.4V Rechargeable Battery + Battery Charger) . . . Racer is equipped with an advanced 2.4 GHz Transmitter / Controller :)
Helpful Hint: This RC Racer requires a Battery & Charger that’s not included. Therefore, we recommend you save a few bucks to make your Mustang GT replica “Road Ready” with a 7.4V Battery and Charger set (CLICK HERE): The Road Ready “group” includes the 1:10 Mustang GT + Rechargeable 7.4V LiPo Battery + Battery Charger.
Helpful Hint: If you don’t have one of those cordless hand tools lying about to use as a back-up battery, no need to panic, here is the most reasonably priced battery, that works, that we could find: A Black and Decker 20V Lithium ion with 2500mAh priced . . . (Click Here) . . . The “Jeep” is equipped with a Standard 20-V Battery
Meet the Radio Controlled (R-C) Transforming Rock Crawler: Words would only pale the image of the remarkable Rock Crawler “vehicle” displayed below. A matching pair is ideal for off-road fun; especially since the Anti-interference 2.4G radio control system insures that several Crawlers can easily compete at the same time!
Package includes: 1 x four Wheel Drive Off-Road Rock Crawler, 1 x Transmitter (requires two 1.5V AA Batteries ─ NOT included), 1 x 9.6V 1000mah Ni-MH battery (included), 1 USB charger, and 1 Operators Manual.
Check-out the gripping manufacturers’ YouTube / MagosHobby Online video of the Bronco (and other scaled vehicles) in action before you move on via the image link below . . . They will not disappoint you!!!
You’ll need a good reliable battery for the powerful electric brushed 35T crawler motor that’s a “stock” component in the ‘72 Bronco Ascender; it works perfectly with Dynamite’s 7.4V 4000mAh (4 amp) Lithium rechargeable (Click Here) battery and of course, you’ll need to re-charge the battery after an hour or so of “run time” . . . We recommend the Keenstone Lipo Battery Charger / Discharger with Low Voltage Checker (Click Here).
Helpful Hint: On rare occasions the drive line set screws have a tendency to become loose or “back-out” on some 1:10 scaled Bronco’s, so we suggest a little preventive maintenance by adding a tiny drop of lock tight on the screws to insure trouble free up-time . . .
Traxxas, the U. S. R-C manufacturing company based in McKinney, Texas, will always be famous for the T-MAXX and the REVO 3.3; but each are equipped with noisy Nitro engines / motors . . . But what do you know about the XO-1 (Corvette) 1:7 scale Supercar that can exceed 100+ mph? Well, she’s 27” long, 11.6” wide, 5” tall and weighs only 10.3 lbs (4.67 kg) with twin 11.1V 3-Cell batteries on-board . . . Yep, this girl is all electric and comes equipped with the new and improved 2.4 GHz (1 gigahertz = 1 billion cycles per second) Controller which automatically finds an open frequency / channel to run on (14 available) ─ sooo, never again experience operating inference accidently! . .
Note: Currently (12-29-2018) this car is only available in Blue or White (New) . . . 1 used Black model is available . . .
Helpful Hints: The two 11.1V, 3-C batteries and duel charging system this beauty needs are (Click Here) available as a package set . . . If you think you might be content with a maximum speed somewhere between 45 and 50 mph, then two (that’s 2 batteries needed) 7.4V, 2-Cell batteries (Click Here) will do the job, and at a much lower cost . . . This Charger (Click Here) will only charge one battery at a time but then it’s priced much lower than a two battery charger!
Most Importantly: R-C Race tracks capable of accommodating the X0-1's speed are scarce at best; and drivers who have the R-C control skills required for exceeding even 50 mph are few and far between too . . . Therefore, we seriously recommend you check out a few YouTube Videos of the XO-1 in action before finalize this purchase!
Having said all that, the problems with the Multi-million Dollar Hobby Grade R-C Industry are few, but to be perfectly honest, in our view, it does have a genuine need to “standardize” the type / size batteries that’s used in dozens of R-C vehicles . . . This is especially so, since several Hobby Grade manufacturers no longer include the primary re-chargeable battery with their R-C Cars, Trucks, SUV’s, and etc offered into today’s marketplace. This will likely become an industry wide standard as the much improved lithium battery’s production costs continue to spiral out of control.
Sooo, here’s a half dozen top-qualityTraxxas large scale vehicles that do not include the required 7.4 Volt 2-Cell 25C 5000mAh Traxxas LiPo battery or a Battery Charging System with the initial sale; yet, they each work with the same type batteries and Chargers . . . You can find the 7.4V, 2-Cell batteries on this site (Click Here) . . . This Charger, (Click Here) will only charge one battery at a time but, then, it’s priced at a much lower cost.
Mustang GT 1:10 Scale (Black) >>> Top Speed: 30 mph . . .
1979 Bronco Trail Crawler (Black over Red) . . . *Can use 3-Cell LiPo battery . . .
68086-4 Slash 4X4 4WD Short Course Racing Truck 1:10 Scale (Fox Design) > > > Top speed: 60+ mph . . .
Traxxas XO-1 (Corvette) 1:7 Scale Supercar (Red, Black, White & Blue ) . . . Can exceed 100+ mph with a 3-Cell LiPo battery set of two; 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds! 0-100 mph in 4.92 seconds . . . *Will reach nearly 50 mph with a set of two, 2-Cell LiPo Batteries . . .
Note: Currently (08-14-2019) available only in Black or White . . .
Note: Currently (08-14-2019) available only in Black or White . . .
Here’s Two popular 1:10 scale R-C models by Vaterra; both require a Dynamite B3800EC Reaction 7.4V 4000mAh 2S 50C LiPo rechargeable battery (Click Here) . . . And of course, you’ll need at least one Recharging device; we recommend the Keenstone Lipo Battery Charger / Discharger with a Low Voltage Checker (Click Here) . . .
1972 Chevrolet K-10 Pickup RTR Ascender:
1972 Bronco 4x4 RTR Ascender:
The “Top Race” RT 211 R-C 1:14 scale Excavator (see image below) has the latest 2.4 GHz transmitter that assures all the directives sent will result in all the actions that an actual full scale caterpillar excavator is designed to perform. It features a metal shovel ideal for digging in packed sand or loose soil. This Heavy Duty Model is simply perfect for loading materials into a R-C dump truck, to then be hauled away from your sandbox or construction site.
Please note that the manufacturer recommends that inexperienced operators should be no less than 8 and no more than 88 years of age. The Excavator is often described by many “seasoned” construction equipment operators as being one of the the most difficult pieces to maneuver properly! Sooo, if you are inexperienced, please allow yourself ample time to become the greatest operator you know you can be!
This TR 211 excavator can move in all directions which includes a 680 degree rotating cab for added realism. The actual size is nearly 16 inches long; 7 inches wide; and 9 inches high.
Helpful Hint: The TR 211 only gets about 20 minutes of run-time with the provided 7.2V 400mAh battery ─ mAh stands for “milliamp hours” by the way. It’s a measure of the amount of energy a battery or battery pack can store (kinda like a auto’s gas tank size). Thus a 700mAh battery can store more energy than a 400mAh battery. More stored energy equals more run-time between recharges. The most important aspect of a “replacement” battery includes its physical size, shape, plug style, and capacity when compared to an original battery pack . . . These (CLICK HERE) two battery packs are advertised as being the same on all counts.
Helpful Hints: The Remote Control requires 2 AA Batteries (not included). The Loader’s net weight is less than 5 pounds (2 kg)
Now then, lets shift gears just a bit; here’s (see image below) a Shade-tree Mechanic’s Restoration project from a few years back you’re apt to dream about for months to come . . . It’s an extremely rare 1970 T/A Dodge Challenger . . . An expensive hobby, yes, but when considering that he bought most all the parts he needed “on-line” ─ you have to know his monetary return was lots of these: $ $ $ . . . Sooo, if fixing things up is your thing ─ check this out:
Here’s his most recent effort . . . Sorry, it sold a while back too:
Okay, there is an Alternative, particularity if you’re on the shy side of the required time, skill, and or knowledge needed for completing such an outlandish hobby project. It’s simply called “Classic Car & Truck Collecting”. Though a bit pricey, the “Busy Hobbyist” is more apt to circumvent the grit and grime associated with pursuing the role of a “Shade Tree Mechanic” who dwells on vintage truck & auto restorations via outright purchases. In short, allow a fellow Hobbyist to do the “heavy lifting”! Just Click Here, and you’ll find Muscle Cars; Race, Drag, Dirt, & Vintage Cars; Custom jeeps & trucks; Hot Rods, Motor homes, Trailers and even Engines! Yep, most everything a car enthusiast might want! . . Check-out the images of a few of the remarkable vehicles that were showcased on the above referenced web-site recently; though, they’ve SOLD ─ there’s literally hundred’s more available!
Helpful Hints: Dimensions of Disney/Pixar Slot Track “foot print” when assembled: 6.10 ft x 2.53 ft . . . The full length of Track = 17.38 feet.
Helpful Hint: Tow Mater is a bit top-heavy, so don’t expect him to stay on the track at a high rate of speed. After all, he is a “Tow Truck” - not a Racer :)
Helpful Hints: Prices vary as a few used seta are currently (01-09-2019) available; be sure to closely read the “quality” description of the used sets offered before you make your purchase! . . . We recommend investing in rechargeable AAA batteries for the DMX set! Expect 20 to 30 minutes of “run time” per set of batteries; 2 per car, x 4 cars = 8 AAA batteries.
Just for Kids (4 to 8 Yrs Old)! . .
Helpful Hint: Each Vehicle (displayed above) Requires 3 AA Batteries, and each Remote Requires 2 AA Batteries (Not Included), so it’s probably a good idea to invest in this 20 pack of AA Batteries at a ridiculously low price.
Challenge a child's imagination with this (display above) fun 4M Tin Can Robot kit . . . Just perfect for most any young scientist; this fun robotics kit teaches the value of recycling by re-purposing a used soda pop can into a moving, functioning robot! All the building materials are included (except a empty soda can and a AA Battery) with easy-to-follow instructions.
This purchase will allow adults and kids alike to build a motorized monster, goofy robot, or a combination of the two. Not only does it promote creativity, it's an excellent opportunity to show kids how toys are assembled and function.
Helpful Hints: The kit includes most of the required components, accessories, and easy-to-follow directions. However, it does not include an empty soda can, a Phillips head screwdriver, or a AA battery; all of which are needed for completing the Robot! Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Want a bit more respect from your equals & elders? . . No? ! ! Then you probably shouldn't consider investing in a Chess Set . . . On the other-hand, if you’re searching for a Set (for any reason), keep in mind that all chess players were beginners at some point, even 15 year old US Grandmaster, Bobby Fischer . . .
Unlike cheaper Chess Boards, the remarkable Set displayed below is elegant & presentable; ideal for social games with friends, family, & colleagues . . . Nope, this is not some cut-rate hollow plastic set; the 13” board is crafted of 64 solid premium pine wood blocks and the pieces are made of polished high grade hardwood.
This Unique, Multi Level Chess Set (above) is for Adults & Smart Kids . . . This Board features a 3D stair-step design! . . If you’re not “right-bright”, you might ought to skip over this set :) :) :) . . . (Just kidding, really . . .) . . .
In edition, the Blu Devil wooden chess pieces are not too big & not too small, not too heavy & not too light; they’re sized for easy handling. Even Miss Goldilocks would approve of these Chess Pieces. The King is 2.4" tall, the Queen is 2.2" tall, the Bishops stands at an even 2", the Knights are 1.6" tall, the Rooks: 1.4" high & the Pawns are 1.2" tall.

Helpful Hints: You’ll never need batteries for this beauty, it runs perfectly with normal electrical impulses emitted from most any human’s neural structure (brain); and yep, this is a Chess Set you'll be proud to display in your study, game room, or living room . . .
Oftentimes, in regard to the game of Chess, what you need most of all is simply a partner! Over the past few years Computerized Chess Set costs have become more tolerable which has solved that sticky issue. Sooo, with Computer opponents, you can play without a living breathing human partner; but you do (in most cases) have to move the the computer’s chess pieces about the board as is shown in a built-in display and or as is directed verbally by your artificial processing opponent. Unlike “traditional” PC Chess software, this form of play allows you to use real three dimensional pieces to move around the board, thus, providing a more classic “feel” for the game! Plus, there's no “screen time” which puts that pesky eye strain issue to rest!
The perfect choice may be the ever popular Excalibur Electronic E951 Einstein Master 2 in 1, Chess and Checkers Set displayed above. It has tutorial and advanced playing levels; is reasonably priced and shipping costs are included in the deal! . .

So, you might consider the Civil War Era Chess Set (image above) with FREE shipping!

Okay, so if you’re among the unfortunates that don’t feel fully versed in the basics of the game of Chess or maybe just a bit confused about the “why” of the game, perhaps it’s about time you considered taking a look-see at our very own publication titled: “Wanta Play Chess” . . . Just Click Here and you’ll be electronically telliported there darn near instantly! . .
On the other hand, if you just don’t feel the need; well, we’re good with that too! . .
Now then, while we’re on the subject of games designed to strengthen the “intellect” how ’bout a look-see at the modern version of one of the most under-appreciated and oldest pastimes: The new and much improved 3-D Jigsaw Puzzle! . . If you need a little convincing, take a few minutes and check-out our recent publication titled “Modern Puzzlers” . . . (Simply Click Here) . . . If you prefer, just “plow” ahead! . . There’s no problem here . :) :)
Be sure to check-out the video short showing the construction of the puzzle when you arrive at the above Ravensburger official site; it’s located right there near the top left of the “home-page” - it’ll be the last of the product image displays; bet you’ll love it! Click Here, then check out the short flick (video). . .
Actually, Jigsaw puzzle have been around since way-back in 1767 but the 3-D version didn’t make its “debut” until more than 200 years latter in 1991. The 3-D Jigsaw was dreamed up by Canadian entrepreneur, Paul Gallant, who “cooked up” a sweet deal with American giant, Hasbro in 2005; the largest toy maker in the world in terms of stock market value, and the third largest in terms of revenues!
Helpful Hint: Considering the low capital investment, you just can’t go wrong with this purchase . . . Just think, you’ll get hours of entertainment and never a battery needed! . .
Into building your own your own automobile? . . Yes! . . Well, you’ll simply love this 1956 T-Bird project:
Helpful Hints: The Thunderbird project might be a bit much for those under 12; but if you’re 112, or less (though a bit of a challenge), you can certainly get the job done! . . Just how difficult is this project? Well, it comes with 357 Foam-Back Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces (not that bad when you consider the average real car is composed of 30 thousand parts) but the results are well worth the effort . . . Oh, yeah, the finished product stands at just a bit more than 12 inches long, nearly 5 inches wide, and 4.3 inches tall.
Or maybe, you long to “hone” your skills as a Shipwright with the 3-D Wooden Pirate Ship puzzle displayed below; although it has a Piece Count of only 163, it’s certainly not a project you should consider an “easy-peasy” effort . . . When completed, her assembled size will be 15.7" long, 4.7" wide, and 13.9" tall.
On the other-hand, perhaps, as a skilled builder, you’re more into traditional structures on a expansive scale. You’ll not likely get any more grand than this 3-D model of this pre 9-11 “snippet” of New York City (displayed below) This “Big Boy” is sure to become a Collectors Classic!
Please note . . . This is NOT a weekend project! Some buyers have reported completion taking up to three (3) months!
Helpful Hints:This puzzle is being offered by several sellers. The condition of the puzzles vary; some are new, some are used; therefore, prices vary. It is consequently very important to review each seller's item description before purchasing . . . 3,141 pieces yields a completed display of 23.5 x 7.5 x 14.25 inches.
Now then, how ‘bout we skip from games designed to exorcise the mind to games of a physical nature; specifically, Paintball and Basketball. If you like, view our in-depth publications on both topics: Click Here for Basketball and or Click Here for the sport of Paintballing.
The first thing you should know about Basketballs is the ball's official size: the NBA, Men's College and High School basketball leagues use a ball that’s 29.5 inches in circumference. A slightly smaller ball, measuring 28.5 inches in circumference is the official size for women’s High School, College, and Pro basketball. Check-out the Chart below for more detail:

Another critical factor is that you can’t possibly reach your highest skill level or potential without basic “back-yard” practicing equipment similar to that displayed below. The old adage “Practice makes perfect” applies to Basketball and Paintball; as is the case for all physical sporting activities . . . And too, Practice is fun!
Experience hours of fun with the Pro Mini Basketball Hoop XL (see display below). It’s made for play, but designed with durability in mind . . . A perfect addition to every basketball enthusiasts equipment collection . . . Your purchase includes door mounts, and all tools necessary to easily install this indoor mini basketball hoop. The heavy-duty, 8-loop net will last game after game, giving you the swish you want; the shatter resistant backboard is 23” x 16” and made of a clear polycarbonate. It has protective foam padding on the backboard and brackets so as to minimize impact on your door.
The professional-grade hoop, and 5.5” Pro Mini rubber ball will give you the game-like action that you need. The 9.5” diameter spring action “break-away” steel rim, allows the practice of “dunks” anytime. The spring will instantly bounce the rim back into place once each dunk shot is made.
Helpful Hints: Have your basketball pump and needle at the ready, as the miniature (5.5”) basketball is shipped deflated . . . In other words, you’ll have to “pump it up”!
Yet another physical game that continues to grow in popularity, is Paintball or Paintballing; it’s a competitive team shooting sport in which players eliminate opponents from play by hitting them with small circular dye-filled gelatin “paintballs” that splatter upon impact. Paintballs are usually shot at opponents by using a low-energy air powered weapon called a paintball “marker” or “gun” that was originally designed for remotely marking trees and cattle.
The game is a relative new comer into the marketplace, in that it was developed in May 1981. Games are played indoor or on outdoor fields of varying sizes. The “game field” is scattered with natural and or artificial terrain, which players use for tactical cover.
The terminology and equipment used might seem a bit complicated to an unseasoned player, sooo, if you fit into that category, we suggest you review our short Publication on Paintballing by Clicking Right Here!
Concerned about “Fields of Play”? This site lists locations on a state by state basis; just Click Here.
The .68 caliber Paintball Marker Gun & Player Package Set (displayed above) Includes: 1 Tippmann Cronus Marker, 1 GXG Mask with Visor and Anti Fog Lens, 1 Black “3Skull” 6 Plus Deluxe Paintball Harness, six 140 Round Heavy Duty Ultimate Paintball Clear Tubes, 1 ounce bottle of Gold Cup Oil (for reducing friction and wear of all moving internal marker parts), “3Skull” 21 Inch Squeegee (for interior gun barrel cleaning), 1 “3Skull” 20 Ounce Tank (empty) which can use CO2 or highly compressed air, and 1 “3Skull” 200 round Black Hopper
Helpful Hints: When filling Compressed Paintball Air Tanks . . . Most Paintball Shops and or Playing Fields have the equipment to safely fill compressed air tanks, and some will fill them for free. However, you're more likely to pay one to three dollars for every 1,000 psi . . .
A 3,000 psi scuba tank will fill a compressed air tank about 15 to 20 times. However, the tank will cost a few hundred dollars, and you will need to pay to get it filled . . .
Don't even try to use your tire pump or a standard air compressor—they simply won't work. Most of these compressors max out at 180 psi, and your paintball tanks require a minimum of 3,000 psi to fill . . .
By law, filled gas tanks for paintball guns cannot be shipped; therefore when buying your equipment on-line, do not expect a tank to come ready for the paintball field! . .
Most paintball guns operate with highly compressed air (HPA) or Carbon dioxide (CO2) — such tanks are filled to 3,000 to 4,500 pounds per square inch (psi). Filling and refilling these tanks requires heavy-duty compressors and equipment . . .
In the world of Paintball Gear, pre-owned, just makes good sense! . . Check-out Dr. Paintball’s large selection of used merchandise (see image below) . . .
For the serious “Paint-baller”, a MAddog Padded Chest Protector, Tactical Half Gloves, and a Neck Protector (Color: Black - Sizes: Small, Medium, Large, or X-large) is a must!
